Founding
hmi was founded by Walter Meister and Roland Holliger in 1987 as a spin-off of the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. Their concept was based on the recognition that great potential benefits for the financial industry lie in the use of the latest software technology and an engineering style approach.

Structure
As the first Swiss software house, hmi began developing so-called imaging software for the electronic processing of pay-in slips. With this technology the company was able to win over the Swiss Post (today PostFinance) as its most important customer in the area of payment transfers. In Switzerland today several million deposit and payment transactions are processed each day using software from hmi informatik. This successful project made an initial growth to twenty employees possible.

Specialization
In the mid-nineties hmi increasingly specialized in the development of Internet-based software, which lead to the winning over of additional renown financial institutions as customers.

Expansion
The switch to a corporate (non-listed) public company occurred in 1989, and ten years later hmi also took hold in Germany.

Today
hmi currently has forty employees. The company generated a turnover of EUR 6.5 million in the business year 2001.

Tomorrow
No decrease in demand for innovative and high-quality solutions by the financial institutions is expected despite the recent general trend. The target is an annual growth of 10 to 20 percent.
